Marquis Software Solutions, a Texas-based provider of data analytics for financial institutions, has officially reported a data breach impacting 780,229 individuals. The company, which offers marketing, sales, and compliance solutions, filed a notification of the security incident with the Maine Attorney General’s Office.
Incident Discovery and Investigation
The security event was first detected when Marquis identified unauthorized access to its computer network. Upon discovery, the company launched a formal investigation, enlisting the help of third-party cybersecurity experts to determine the scope of the intrusion. The investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor had successfully accessed and acquired certain files from the company’s systems. Marquis began mailing notification letters to affected individuals on June 11, 2024.
Compromised Data and Company Response
The investigation determined that the files acquired by the unauthorized party contained sensitive personally identifiable information. The exposed data includes individuals’ names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. Furthermore, the breach compromised highly sensitive information such as Social Security numbers and financial account information. In response to the incident, Marquis stated it has secured its network and is reviewing its security policies and procedures.
