Windows 10 Reaches Official End of Support

Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday release on October 14, 2025, coincides with the official end-of-support date for most editions of the Windows 10 operating system. This date marks the conclusion of the product’s lifecycle, which began on July 29, 2015. After this final update, consumer editions of Windows 10 Home and Pro, along with many commercial editions, will no longer receive free monthly security updates, non-security updates, or assisted support from Microsoft. This policy affects versions 22H2 and all prior versions of the operating system.

The end-of-support milestone means that devices running these editions of Windows 10 will not be protected against new security vulnerabilities discovered after October 14, 2025, unless enrolled in a paid program. The final security patches delivered on this date address the last set of vulnerabilities covered under the standard support lifecycle for the general public.

Extended Security Updates (ESU) Program

For organizations and individuals unable to migrate to a supported operating system like Windows 11 before the deadline, Microsoft provides the paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10. This program offers security updates for up to three additional years. The ESU program is an available option for those who require continued protection while planning their migration. Participation in the ESU program provides security patches but does not include new features or non-security fixes. This October 2025 Patch Tuesday is the last one before the ESU program becomes the primary method for receiving security updates for covered Windows 10 editions.
