Aisuru Botnet Strikes US ISPs With Record-Breaking DDoS Attacks

A newly identified botnet, dubbed “Aisuru,” has executed a series of record-breaking Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, targeting the infrastructure of major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across the United States. The campaign resulted in significant service degradation and widespread internet outages for customers nationwide.

Cybersecurity analysts have confirmed that the Aisuru botnet is responsible for the attacks, which saturated ISP networks with an unprecedented volume of malicious traffic. The event marks a significant escalation in the scale and coordination of DDoS campaigns aimed at critical internet infrastructure.

Attack Characteristics and Volume

The Aisuru botnet’s power stems from its compromise of a vast network of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, primarily consisting of misconfigured home routers and IP cameras. Attackers leveraged these devices to generate a traffic flood that peaked at volumes exceeding previous records. Network traffic monitors registered sustained attack levels that overwhelmed the defenses of several targeted providers. The attacks primarily utilized a combination of amplification and reflection techniques, making attribution and immediate mitigation challenging for network operators.

Widespread Service Disruptions

The primary impact of the DDoS campaign was felt by consumers and businesses across the country. Multiple prominent ISPs reported severe latency and packet loss, rendering internet access unreliable or completely unavailable for millions. Network engineers worked to reroute traffic and filter the malicious data streams, but the sheer volume of the attack caused intermittent disruptions to persist. The incident underscores the vulnerability of centralized network infrastructure to large-scale, coordinated botnet attacks.
